Anyone successfully using a Petris Enterprises vented opti??
A real stand-up guy who knows what he is talking about. Folks that have dealt with him for this part rave about him.
Maybe someone who has some miles on their unit will chime in.
While driving your Vette with the Petris Ent. Optispark, SAVE the WAVE!

I don't have an opti but I can tell you Chris is all about help out Corvetter's. He helped me with a problem on my 79 and didn't even charge me. The only thing I wished he start writting a column again the guy is a walking enclyopedia. He is aces in my book.

Unfortunately, we were never privileged to read the outcome.
I never understood why there was ever any controversy. The photos and text all supported your case.
They kept offering ridiculous settlements like 12 gallons of antifreeze and 3 sets of waterpump gaskets. While it is true I went through this quantity of antifreeze and gaskets I did not need more since my car was together and running.
After I involved the TN Attorney General's office they got a little more realistic.
In the end I kept the cap and venting system and sent them the 2 junk optis back.

Notice that both Chris Petris and his daughter jumped into this thread but quickly left after I posted pics, never to return.
They also did away with their lifetime warranty. I have screenshots of the warranty page on their website before they deleted it for anyone who needs to enforce the lifetime warranty they once offered.

The funny thing about LT1 coil conversions is they still dont eliminate the optispark!
They still rely on the optical sensor - which is the most failure prone part of the whole system.
The optispark works fine as long as you add a custom vent to a 92-94 non-vented unit. My original (non-vented)optispark failed at 26k miles on my 93 due to water intrusion.
Again, add a vent and suddenly the 92-94 becomes as reliable as a 95-96 which are known to go over 200k in abusive taxi-cab, picku trucks, police-car, etc, environments for those motors
I believe bassackwards bought my optispark which was a converted 92-94 to vented style. It worked fine for me and it works fine for him as a used part.
The problem is people using non-OE grade optisparks. MSD, dynaspark, they are all PO$.
Spend the money. You can buy a 92-94 AC Delco optispark for about $700 from advance auto parts (well that was back in nov 2011 last time I checked).
The 95-96 are a little tougher to come by. They were available as Delphi (can someone confirm this is who made the OE part?, also need someone to confirm that current Delphi has the mitsubishi optical sensor ) units.
There are also AC Delco 'rest-assured' remanufactured units.
Now beware I did have a problem with a remanufactued AC delco unit. As I mentioned in a previous post, every thing was new, except for the optical sensor. They had painted black spraypaint over the mitsubishi optical sensor and called it 'new'. Well, that part of it broke down on it and caused me to have to tear it down. gmpartsdirect.com were absolute cun!ts about it and refused to give me my money back just refer me to a gm dealer for another unit under warranty.
All that said about the acdelco remanufactured units....they would still be one of my top choices (along with Delphi) if I needed to buy a replacement for a 95-96 car.
