Default Speedometer Gears ?

Hi, please help me with this:

I'm little confused about the colors or tooth in speedometer sensor to trans.

My speedometer sensor was broken, then I have the sensor hang it out and I lost the gear.

Then I need your help to know which gears color or part number I need.

My car is 1991 L98 with 2.59 rear

my original speedometer sensor part number is 10455091 that I already bought a replacement.

the sensor came with gear, I installed and work intermitent, my cluster gauge lcd sometime reads the speed and now never work.
then I have the light on and the scanner reads the trouble code.

probably the gear inside the trans is worn. or the gear that came with new speed sensor is not correct.

Then I want to buy new speedometer sensor gear, inside trans gear, seal and oring (cone).

I found this chart but also i red that have a lot of errors from other members.
http://www.corvetteforum.net/c4/vett...Gearshtm.shtml
on my 1991 2.56 application appear that this chart is wrong becasue I originally have the 091 speed sensor and this chart shows 092.

appears that this chart shows that I need the 8640517 Red gear (inside trans).

but the speedometer gear sensor appears that can be white or orange ?

I found this site to buy the gears, oring, lock and seal

http://www.transmissioncenter.net/sp...n_______va.htm

let me know

red -- ok ?

white -- or orange ?

thanks in advance

Note the different tire size ?
White is for 2.59 with 17' tire
Orange is for 16"

For '91 ;only the red (17) / white (36) combo is listed for 2.59 rear

There's been an error in the speedometer charts since '91 MY (or I believe it's an error) where it displays for '91 MY an 092 sensor for driven gears with less than a tooth count of 39 and an 091 for tooth count 40 plus.

I've always relied on the text aspect of the catalog and the RPO identification for the correct sensor.

D8K - 10456091

D8L - 10456092

I believe if you check your console cover you'll find D8K and the 10456091 you removed is correct.

The error is still in the electronic charts today. The link posted related to the gears/sensors is based on those erroneous charts.

The 3.54 ideally would require a 15 tooth drive - 43 tooth driven and a 10456092 VSS

8642620 GM for the drive, 25513050 for the driven

Eduardo - You may want to give Roger at Speedometer Solutions an email. He is well versed on speedometer gears, signal generators, cable conversions, etc...He diagnosed what I needed for my conversion, which works very well!

Changing the speedo driving gear in the trans tailhousing is a PITA...

I don't know that the "drive" gear would be such a PITA since the OP is doing a gear change and the d-shaft, c-beam and anything else you consider a PITA is removed. It might also be timely to do the bushing in the tail-shaft housing although in a 50K mile car it's certainly not considered required maintenance!

I was thinking DNE 4+3 or ZF 6-speed...But with a 2.59 rear, he has the 700R4 doesn't he??? Never worked on one myself, but I suppose it's not that much different than a TH350...
