This may seem like a stupid question, and I think I have an idea of what the problem is, but before I start buying parts I'd like to get your guys' opinion.
When I turn left while driving (have to be going fast enough to get a weight transfer to the right side) there is a solid squeeling sound coming from the right side. At first I thought it might be something with the brakes because of the sound it was making, but when I brake it doesn't make any noises (no grinding, squeeling, etc). But it just didn't make sense for it to be a brake problem with it only happening while turning left.
So my thoughts are that it has something to do with my shocks (they are about 6 years old according to the information left by the previous owner. They do feel like they could be replaced as well. However, there are times when I'm going relatively quick around a left turn where I don't have to turn my wheel as much, but still get a good weight transfer over to the right side, and I get zero noise which has me question my "shocks" theory. Also, when I straighten out after the turn, there is zero noise (even on big bumps).
So my question is, does this sound like it could be related to poor shocks? Or is there something I'm overlooking?
First thing to come to my mind is a power steering pump, or low power steering fluid. I have heard shocks squeak and groan but not squeal. If I remember correctly the pump is on the right side not too far from the shock, so that seems like where you describe the noise coming from. Why only on a left turn, I dunno, maybe a sign of worse things too come. But I am just guessing, hard to diagnose it from here.
The sound is coming from the rear of the car, sorry I forgot to mention that. The sound is like when your brakes are really bad and they screech/squeal, it's hard to describe. The only thing is that it doesn't make the sound when braking, only turning to the left.
might be worth lifting the back end off the ground & get underneath to have a look around
if anything is rubbing it`ll leave marks i guess.
just a suggestion.
IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A BAD WHEEL BEARING. WHEN YOU TURN RIGHT OR LEFT IT PUTS MORE LOAD OR WEIGHT ON THE BEARING.DRIVE ALONG ABOUT 40 MPH AND SWERVE BACK AND FORTH THE NOISE SHOULD COME AND GO ,IF SO, WHEN YOU SWERVE TO THE LEFT IT PUTS MORE WEIGHT ON THE RIGHT BEARING AND VISA VERSA OR JACK UPTHE BACK OF THE CAR IF THERE REAL BAD YOU'LL FEEL PLAY IN THE BEARING. AT LEAST THATS WHERE I WOULD START. AND THATS ASSUMING THE REAR SUSPENSION, BUSHINGS ETC ARE GOOD AND NOT LETTING THE BODY ROLL AND ALLOWING TIRES ,RIMS TO HIT SOMETHING. GOOD LUCK
