Smog Pump removal on 85'
My Smog pump is beginning to make a terrible squeal. I do not require any emissions testing due to the age of the vehicle and the "antique" classification. Can I simply use a smaller belt like on the 84 and leave it in place? I am prepping the car for sale and really want to minimize cost and effort at this point. I saw that an 85" belt works on the 84. Has anybody done this on an 85?

If you just need a temp fix to get rid of the squeal, you can knock out the innards of the AIR pump with a hammer/chisel and retain the same belt arrangement. This gives you (or a new owner) time to source another AIR pump, or eliminate it entirely, without any down time.

There are threads here about making your own eliminator Do a search for plans. You can also do as mentioned to the AIR pump itself. When I did my eliminator kit I had to get a 1" shorter belt but dont recall the length. It cleans up the engine bay nicely.
