Default LT4 W/Hot Cam, Programming ECM Help

I am having the Hot Cam installed in my car shortly.Do I
need to have the ecm reprogrammed right away after the install
or can I drive the car for awhile and then do it? Will I damage the engine
without reporgramming and or will it run very poorly without reprograming.
Also, should I do some dyno runs after the install and before programing?

Thanks for the help

A lot of people have very good results running the Hot Cam on an LT4 car without any programming. It will run a little better with some tuning, but you'll be fine.

The LT1 will "run" with it, but every time you disconnect the battery it has to re-learn how to idle and you are still restricted by the 5800 rpm rev-limiter.

You wont damage anything by running the stock PCM program. However, I have seen HOT cam installs run great on stock programming and also run very poorly on stock programming. You will experience a fair amount of cam surge in the lower RPM's, but it is easily fixed with a reprogram. I would look into getting Autotap so you can log data from the PCM. This will help you determine if PCM tuning is need sooner rather than later.

As a side note, I notice your in IL. My garage is always open for PCM tuning & Beer drinking  . If you need help, just let me know.

Jimmy

Mine runs GREAT! with no tuning...I'll probably get it programmed after headers and catback...

I'm still running a stock program in mine and the car runs great with the mods in the sig. That said, I still do plan on getting it reprogrammed this summer in an attempt to maximize the benefits of what's been done.

You will get the maximum performance out of the car if you have the PCM tuned, Speed Inc in Schaumburg does chassis dyno tuning, they use Brian from BV performance and he tunes the cars on the dyno there. Give them a call at 847 891-0767.........Ask for Larry or Tom.

I have had the cam in now for about a month and the car runs perfect. Made a two hour trip down to the gf's parents and played around with all sorts of speeds :D and rpm's, found nothing to worry about. But like everyone else stated, ecm tuning will be the next to maximize the new cam and head work. Think you'll love the new sound your gonna experience

Stock programming here. Check my sig for 1/4 times and dyno graph.

Driveability is great. The stock LT4 programming handles the hot cam well but I am not sure if the same can be said for LT1 programming.

BTW, I used a Hypertech to log data at WOT. The O2 sensors looked great at around 750 mV and the spark was at 39 *. Not sure if you could do much better than that...

Thanks for all the help everyone.!
I will get the hot cam installed and see how it runs before any reprogramming.

Eric,

Thanks for the info, nice dyno. I hope mine checks as good after the
hot cam install.
