4 years is like a record here...i had a few already and mine recent one just crapped out on me last week.Something inside broke...it was an GM a/c declo reman. bought through advance. Its about 8 months old and has maybe 2,000 miles on it...sheesh!!!
Let me know if your replacement one still carries a lifetime or 90 days now.
Advance gave me lifetime for the first one,but when you get a new one under warranty, the 2nd one is only warranteed for 90 days.(I didnt know they did this when i purchased it..another store told me a diff. story)
:(
Bill..In 96' I bought a NAPA with a 3 yr warranty it was a 108 amp. A year later, 97', it crapped out and they gave me another but this time a 97 amp.well it worked fine for 4 years until this past Wed. I went back to NAPA thinking I only had a 3 year warranty but the girl told me that on 97 amp models there's a Lifetime warranty even though I only paid for a 3 year model 5 years earlier ....Speaks well of NAPA I think.
My new one also has a Lifetime warranty. Can't beat it. They're $155.00 net , List is $190.00
If you don't have a lifetime warranty you can usually buy a rebuild kit for like $20. Much cheaper than buying another alternator. The diodes usually go bad from what I've read.
KYVette,
Wish thats what I could do...the recent alternator self destructed inside...theres like a plastic fan blade inside near the back and it broke off and shredded into 1,000 little pieces. The bearings seized somewhat because of thattoo.
The others had bearing failures or some other stoopid breakage.
Hey people,
Btw, I got a little lucky today with my broken alternator exchange.I called advance to order the GM unit and told them it was a warranty exchange. They didnt ask who I was or anything.Just took the order etc.It came in and I went there to pick it up and this guy I never seen before there looked at my old reciept, gave me the new one, took the bad one and say "Have a good day".
No paperwork was done and the number on the receipt is for another state anyways where I got it from.He didnt ask for my current ph# number and account there.
I thought they were going to say "90 days only for the exchange" but this time no signing or anything. No 90 days BS..So I got another GM alternator and can take it to any advance store again if it should fail.Hopefully I wont have to and this time it will last for a damn long time to come.
If not,Ill go visit napa or someone else and get something better.
:)
Well I put in my NAPA Alterater Saturday...still not charging ? Checked all my wiring ..all's well...we suspect a defect. Will get it today and cross my fingers. As usual....They don't get many defects ..yea right......Always the one I buy.
