Default Which Wideband 02?

Im interested in getting a wideband o2 setup for my '88 but still have a few questions. Ive got longtubes with a bung in the drivers side collector for my factory o2 sensor. Will I need to have another bung welded in for a wideband or is there a kit that can work with the one I already have? Also plan on getting into datalogging-can anyone reccommend a setup that would fit my needs w/o being too complicated?

I used the AEM kit in mine ($200 from Summit) and it is working well. I believe it came with a bung and yes you will need to add one. I have heard of kits that run the computer with the WB O2 so you can toss the stock O2 but I don't remember what those were.

I use the TunerPro R/T program for tuning and data logging. It is free to try. For equipment I use the Moates.net stuff. IIRC $80 for the burner, cable, and adapter. Tuning has been fun, give it a try!

I have a procharged LT-1 and have used the AEM gauge and recently switched to a smaller square digital gauge and innovate controller from dynotunenitrous.com. . Whatever setup you choose ensure you install a heat sink (HBX-1) from dynotune. It will ensure your readings are accurate and not affected by heat. Prior to installing the heat sink, my AEM gauge would not read consistently. I have shorty headers to magnaflow cats with two bungs and it worked for me. I had a second bung installed and haven't had any issues (ensure bung is installed at proper angle). With the AFR gauge and controller from dynotune you can datalog without using any other tuning program. Another advantage is the size of the gauge which mounts with velcro anywhere you can fit it. I also have 2 pod gauges, so when I added a third it was my best choice. What steered me toward this setup is the success I had with the installation on my procharged harley. Hope this helps!

Before I installed this AEM kit I tried my brothers Innovate LC-1 and it would always error out with the heat code. I tried a small heat sink like the directions showed with no difference. It also needed to be calibrated often. The AEM kit is working fine in the same place and doesn't need to be re-calibrated all the time. I much prefer it and it's $10 less. Someone had a group sale on those square type kits awhile back, it was good!

On third gen there were instructions to re-pin the ECM so the WB could be displayed in the data log. It was pretty easy to do.

Where did you guys have the 2nd bung for your kits added? I mean which which header(if you have headers) and at what angle?

I have the Innovate LC-1 and digital gauge in my l98. Single bung welded in the drive side collector. The only issue is about once a year you need to do a "free air" calibration so you have to remove the sensor and hit the button and reinstall. One good thing about it is that the Bosche sensor is an off-the-shelf part available at most auto parts stores for a LOT less. The replacement Bosch sensor part number 17014.

I wound up with used LT4 headers with lots of spare places to install one. I used the passenger side so I could monitor both banks. Port is 90° with no trouble. Just don't have it tilted down to much so water pools on it.

Is only 1 bung with sensor required for each kit? Or does it depend on what kit you go with?

I haven't heard of one that doesn't. I leave mine displaying lambda partly because of fuel types.

I've been using the Innovate for years. It will datalog and interface with a laptop or give you on the spot afrs. Couldn't live without it. I haven't gotten the error code previously mentioned.

Another thing I was wondering about-you mentioned you used the pass side to monitor both banks? Can you explain this? From what Ive been reading the bung should have the o2 somewhere from the 3-9 position-but not below this? I plan to start datalogging and I already have a moates ostrich and the cables needed-are all of these wideband kits able to be used with a separate laptop to datalog? Just trying to figure out which one would be my best fit.

No not both with the WB. It is in the passenger side and while data logging I can check the normal drivers side stock sensor.

How did you bring the wires into the cabin & where is your gauge located? I see a W/B in my future & I'd like a fairly clean install. Thanks!

My interior isn't fairly clean anymore. I do have some pix from the trans gauge install long ago. I ran the wires in behind the battery.

WB now:

Stock dash with clean install:

Easy spot to bring wires in:

The kit will come with instructions on where to put the sensor.

Ive been reading everything I can find online about widebands and havent come any closer on choosing one. :/ I cant even figured out the best place to have the bung installed. Im finding different views on that. I was hoping to know for sure since I currently have my starter off and pass side header unhooked. Anyone know if it has to be on the headers themselves? Ive got longtubes into 2.5 true duals with an x-pipe if that matters. No cats btw

Thx aardwolf, that's where I brought my other gauges in as well. I think I think I'll sacrifice something out of the A pillar pod for the W/B
