The battery on my 1987 dropped dead and I have removed it for replacement. Attached to the negative battery cable there is a smaller cable that appears to be for grounding or???
The smaller cable/pigtail was not attached to anything,it is just laying there. Should the small cable be attached to something, and if so,what?
On my 87, that cable goes along the big cable, across the lower front of the battery tray and then to the inside and below the tray. Remove the battery tray and look for a stud or a bolt that goes into the frame. There could be a piece of wire attached to a stud or bolt that was cut off when a prior owner replaced the negative battery cable.
I believe that cable is a frame ground. You will have to remove the rear portion of the wheelwell to access the bolts for the battery tray. Good chance to clean that area up especially if the old battery had leaked and there are acid deposits on the tray. That will quickly eat up the metal.
