I'm buying a new exhaust and I can't decide what I want so I am looking for opinions on the Corsa Cat Back or the Borla Stinger. I thought I wanted the corsa until I found a stinger system for $500. Money isn't the main part of my decision but the ride needs other things so it is a factor. Motor is still stock. Tell me about your experiences, pros & cons. Thanks
I changed out my system with a B&B, and totally regret doing so.
The resonance is unbearable and have resorted to plugging one tailpipe on each side with steel wool. Sounds like stock again but still has quite a fair bit of drone.
Apparently the Corsa system has one functional pipe in the muffler.
There was a post here that showed someone who cut open the muffler. Havent seen one complaint about the Corsa yet.
Although my B&B is the L98 version, without the centre resonator, so it could be different to your requirements.
If you don't want the stinger Sys.sent it my way ..I don't know how they sound from inside the car but from the outside behind a vett with stingers great sound...It's we bad kinda sound....
I put the Corsa LT1 system on my L98. I had FlowMasters on it before this, and I couldn't stand them. Sounded great on the outside, but inside it was awful.
The Corsa system fixed it all. I put bullet cats on the ends of the headers and had the muffler shop bend me the head pipes from the cats to the resonator on the Corsa system.
I used '92-'96 GM exhaust hangers to mount it.
While some SAY the Corsa doesn't flow from both pipes, the opposite is true. The main (inboard) pipe is a straight through, and if you look carefully there are little cuts around the pipe. This allows the Heim-holtz resonator chamber in the muffler cancel out the resonant frequencies. Then the gas that is in the chamber passes out the outboard pipe.
It "seems" gimmicky, but I can tell you it works. No trial & error like others here have done. Bolt it in, and the resonance instantly goes away. Sounds good from inside & outside the car at WOT.
All stainless construction also means it'll last you the lifetime of the car.
corsa here - installed the cat back system on my 96. a little bias though, since it's my 4th corsa system (2000 coupe, 2008 coupe, 1990 coupe, and as i said, my 96 coupe) i did have another system once, but the drone was unbearable. i've never had any fit and finish issues with corsa. some people have said they have not experienced drone with other systems, and i can't confirm that, but i can say, that i've never experienced any drone with corsa. as far as noise, the corsa systems are not so loud as to draw too much attention under normal driving, but at WOT, they light up pretty good and will definitely put a grin on your face.
I have Borla cat back stanless on my 96 came with 96 new in box I put it on no cats sounds good little dorn but I think over priced ..If has cats... just X-pipe and no muffers or with a reasanter tip .. Good sound ... I friend has a new Lambo no muffer jsut off the headers cops look at him and just say wow what a nice ride and is VERY loud.. Let see in a Corvette trying not to draw attention ???? Need a Dawoo..
some of us have that "hey, look at me, i'm driving a corvette" complex, and some of us don't. some of us need a daewoo, and some of us just need an education...
Witch one or you ??? Not all people who drive Corvetts are nice people after driveing and selling and rebuilding and helping people with there old vetts for the last 46 years and some new ones .. You will find some who think whey are better than the rest... You don't know me from your post I think I know you ..So sad....
I have a 1990 Coupe and was considering a Magnaflow Cat Back. Anyone have opinions on that one?
There was a post this summer about a couple of guys having the muffler hangers tearing off the mufflers. One individual was having a hard time getting magnaflow to warranty the mufflers.
I have a 1990 Coupe and was considering a Magnaflow Cat Back. Anyone have opinions on that one?
I had Magnaflow sound loudeners in my '91, when I bought it. Didn't like it, because of the drone they caused. Then I had the exhaust modded into true duals (without cat, of course) and the drone became i-n-f-e-r-n-a-l. Unbearable.
Then I had the original mufflers installed back. No drone whatsoever. True duals, no cat, LT headers. No drone. The volume levels dropped 10-12 dB at highway speed compared to levels with Magnaflow. I could still discuss with my wife at highway speed without raising my voice. After that I had LT-1 mufflers installed, only the sound got a bit different, but the drone still stayed absent. And it still makes decent (=quite a lot of) noise, when accelerating
It might help if you told us what year vette you have.
As far as the LT1 system goes after being on this forum for 7 years my view is that over the years each time this topic comes up it turns out that there are only two systems in the ENTIRE WORLD that do not end up producing headache inducing resonance over the long term: 1) The corsa system 2) the stock LT1 exhaust system.
And since you are asking for opinions …….. my opinion is that you should keep the stock LT1 exhaust (if you indeed have an LT1) and invest the money that you would spend on the beautiful looking corsa system in a set of long tube headers running with the stock resonator and exhaust. It will sound deeper and better that most everything else.
I have Corsa on my '90 vert, the tips must be beyond the bumper otherwise the cavity behind the driver is very loud. The thing I like best is when cruising they sound great, also when the car idles. Sounds like a '63 my neighbor had.
where are you located? I have a 1 year old L98 corsa system that will be for sale soon...minor ding on one of the exhaust tips but still looks fine on the car. I am in RI...
