Default Removing Plenum

I will be removing my plenum to replace EGR, MAT, and probably injectors. I will inspect the fuel regulator while I am there.

What other common tasks should I conquer since I will aleady be in the neighborhood?

I read some say to replace the themostat since its right there.

Also, tips to clean all the intake and TB.

Should I port/polosh or no?

I would check the condition of your oil pressure sending unit stuff. New injectors was one of the best things I had done to my car prior to redoing the top end. Might not hurt to eyeball your wiring connectors by the firewall behind the plenum and check to see if your tach wire is ready to fall off the distributor.

You don't need to remove or loosen any bottom runner bolts to remove the plenum. So it really is fun, pretty quick as well. Pop a few injectors out to make getting the rails out easier with the runners still on.

I've done mine twice, the first time to do all the fixes, the 2nd to swap on a chrome unit, not a difficult job and the results were noticeable.

I hope so... I just ordered a matched flow set of bosch III's. I figure since I'll already be in the neighborhood, I might as well do it all. Don't feel like taking this Plenum off more than I need to.

Hope you got those from FIC, depending on milage , while you have it down , valve seals also make sure you replace all the o-rings and gaskets

And a little vasoline on the rings makes them much easier to install.

My mileage is at 110,000 and it has the original Multech injectors... I should see a good perf. boost with this change.

Yes, I did get them from FIC. I didn't mention the name before because I didn't know if it would violate any forum rules.

The injectors are supposed to come with the O Rings on them from what I understood.

I bought new O-Rings for the Fuel Rail assembly and I also have the Plenum Gaskets (Upper/Lower/TB/Etc.)

Valve Seals? You mean Valve Cover Seals? I thought about doing those. Maybe replace the valve covers with Edlebrock to dress it up a bit.

fic includes all gaskets, o-rings in his kit, he also answers his phone and e-mails at some ungodly hours, not valve cover seals, valve stem seals, a good thing also, depending on mileage

I replaced the EGR the same time I replaced the fuel injectors on my 1990. My friend, who is a professional mechanic, did most of the work. Before he swapped out the EGR, he sprayed a ton of carb cleaner into the EGR valve opening several times and used a wire hanger to clean it out. He said that it needed it as a bunch of black stuff came out. He also asked me for an old magazine. He used balled up pages of the magazine to stop up the ports so that nothing fell into the engine while it was being worked on. He also checked the OHM readings on the new injectors to make sure that none were defective. He would not have done that unless he has seen bad injector or two right out of the box in his time. You may want to check your new ones before use for piece of mind.

That is good to hear. Just in case, it only takes a few minutes to check again. FIC may be guaranteeing the injectors but paying to swap out a bad injector is on your dime.
