Default Opti spark

Just wanted to let everyone know. My origional opti-spark went bad after trying to clean the motor. The first replacement would not work at all, the second one would not work, the third one did work but cause an alarm on the high resolution signal.
I waited about a year and bought one from AIP electronics. It says delco on it but it supposedly has special mitsubishi electronics inside that replaces the origional module.

Any one that has ever replaced this part three times has to know what a pain it is. The AIP distributor worked fine and right now I'm glad I bought it. The cost was no higher that the other opti's that didn't work.

All three of the other distributors came from E-bay too, but were no good.

Beware of some of the parts bought on E-Bay. Some may be used.

I had to buy a new secondary air pump too. It came from Mexico, it ran about 10 seconds and locked up and blew the fuse. El Junko"

Now I'm free of the 36 alarm and my primary fan doesn't run all the time as a result of SES lamp being on. Finally

Just so you are aware, the OEM optispark on a 93 (I have a 93) has the mitsubishi optical sensor inside it. This is not something special put into the optispark. This is what SHOULD have been inside the ebay units you bought.

Heres a picture of what the sensor should look like (disregard all the rust - thats why I replaced it).

Also, be aware of the 'recycled' mitsubishi sensors on rebuilt optisparks (even gm acdelco 'rest-assured' remanufactured units). I bought an ACDELCO remanufactured unit, thought I was good to go when I saw the mitsubishi sensor inside, but it crapped out 2 minutes after starting the motor. No codes, or anything. motor just died.

A closer inspection revealed a crack in the mitsubishi optical sensor and black spraypaint over top of the crack (in an attempt to cover it up).

I got it from gmpartsdirect and they were total cu nt$ about it also.

Also be aware of warped reluctor disks also (look at a sideview of the reluctor disk as you spin it and make sure it doesnt move up and down). These will cause ok idle, but crap out at high rpm.

Dont cheap out on this part!
