Default Any body try this build for L98??

Article in Super Chevy sept called stealth mode TPI.
I have been looking for the right combo & this looks like what I want & wondered if any one had tried it & how it worked out.
I have all of the parts except for the Fast xfi controller & tune to go with it.
Thier dyno results show 546Hp 695 ftlb torque
383 kit, trick Flow 195 alum heads, SLP large runners big mouth intake manifold, comp cam hyd roller.
Next question is will my stock auto DANA 36 rear diff hold it for street duty?

Have a link to that article I find whats listed real hard to swallow.
Has to me more to it.

Very hard to get that kind of power out of a 383 let alone tq.

Here is what I found, but the numbers are lower than posted above:

"Tuned with the FAST management system, the 383 eventually produced 458 hp, and an amazing 534 lbs-ft of torque."

Did the op think they were rwhp and do a quick calculation? Second number sounds right.

Has anyone tried it? Yes...a few have.

See my sig. Would be more if I dumped the single-inlet sidepipe system. No way the OP #'s are right.

Even the linked article is optimistic. Obviously, power generated on an engine stand with no reporters allowed in the booth!

Maybe dyno smoothing set to 0.25!

Probably a better build for a Dana44. (If I had an auto, I'd probably do the SR, MR, or HSR)

TFS heads would be OK. AFR180's would be better for this build....maybe 195's if you might be curious and swap to a short-running intake.

Thanks for all of the feed back. went back to artice & my hp & torque figures were WRONG sorry. brain fart.
Love the look of original intake & willing to sacrifice to keep it as close as possiable.
rodj thanks, have read most of those articles looking for info.
what are the MR,SR, HMR
where can I find a good price on a DANA 44 if I blow mine??
would love to have a 6 speed but costs more than I have in car to swap
want to do road track days some auto cross etc. just have fun with it.
have done some work on interior-carbon fiber on dash, center, flat panel on right side, console & lower door panels instesd of carpet. blk leather on dash pad & upper door panels
replaced warning panel with GPS
Paint I can't decide on what I want. something classy but sharp would like to go to a few car shows & be proud of it.
I have upgraded brakes shocks, wheels tires, repop C6 5 spoke wheels 18" with 315 in back & 195 up front
Still need someone to burn chip or program controler, haven't replaced CPU yet & tried 2 different people but not right yet.

I can identify with that!....

Since you like the look of OEM, stick with the ASM or Edelbrock's. The later would be better ported/honed. FIRST intakes look pretty close to stock (Google First Fuel Injection to find their website. They've got HUGE runner tubes).

MR = MiniRam, SR = SuperRam, HSR = Holley Stealth Ram. None of these look like stock. And, the HSR won't fit without hood modification.

Until you start racing you'll be OK. But yeah, Stick cars, sticky tires and hard starts do the d36 in.

I'm running the xt blkvette85.

I have been around many TPI builds both stock and modified and I have a hard time with those numbers and the parts they used.

Are you talking about the numbers in the link I posted (383 Stealth TPI)?

If not, the OP already withdrew his OP.

I guess you don't have the (view) signature option activated? It's in the user control panel. Many/most people with builds show details in their "signature".

Mine's similar to the linked article with the following exceptions:
AFR195's vs honed heads.
Ported/semi-siamesed SLPs vs TPIS longtubes.
Tri-Y vs 4-1 headers.
stock vs FAST computer

I did my own tune.

FYI, 1989TransAm has done way more than LT builds that I have.

Thank you for the compliment and good luck with your build.

Generally speaking, yes. Most agree 400hp is about the limit.
Pound on it. No. You need a 44

If youre in Ca:

afr 180 head ( i know where you can score a deal on a set dyno time only)
heavily ported base or aftermarket ported
Used aftermarket runners worked over
cam with 2teens @050 may be able to sneak in a little more watch the overlap!

tpi421vette can tune it, Tom Wong, few others are good;dyno don in orange county istalented may be able to get ya headers.

If your budget allows stroke that thing;if youre in ca I can help you via pm and make it simple.

Friend and myself did a true budget build for a friends Iroc it tears tires up pretty good and passes Ca smog legitimately.
$950 10:1 shortblock all stock cheapie forged piston
Ported edelbrock head, base, runners voodoo 256 cam, headers pulls like a 383 not exaggerating, smokes the tires at will. Sounds stock
You wont make big hp but it will be fun for sure
