As a parent and kids that are past the age of the first 3 to 4 years of driving, and yes i had them on my policy. being that a parent is responsible for the actions of there children until the age of 18 , i didn't sleep well alot of nights. as well and respectfully as my kids where raised i still worried , as kids will be kids (wern't we) . i was never so relieved as the day they got there own insurance policy and off of mine. even at the age of 18 and still on your policy, the first thing an attourney looks for is who owns thepolicy. i was fortunate that nothing happened through those years. now both kids are on there own responsible young adults. and proud of them and that to the op at 17 and a vett.your going to pay higher rates thats just the nature of the game. your young ,and going back to post ww 2 ,ins. comp. realized that young and dum go together. the sad part is that they don't have allowances for that 16 -17 yr olds that have and show more responsibility and maturity then the average (and most of us adults) i am considered a responsible mature adult, and as vett owner and three other high horsepower hotrods, nobody likes to do the burnouts and push the go pedal more then i do.i have been lucky and no tickets for a long time.probably because we have the sense,as to when and were we have our fun. my suggestion to you is to search out every ins. co. out there and types of coverage. then for a few years drive with the respect and responsibility that i am sure you have. after a few years research new ins. and with a good driving record your rates will go down. the reason i say research new is that an ins. co. will not lower your rates just because your a good driver, they like your money. good luck and enjoy your vett.
