Code 43 on my 85 Corvette
I have an 85 corvette. I recently rebuilt the top end as I had a leaking water jacket seal on the intake. Figured if I was going to pull the intake I might as well rebuild the heads. Got it all back together and it started right up. When the engine is cool it runs like it should, lots of power and performance. Once it warms up and I stomp on the gas the engine hiccups and the SES light comes on. If I let it run for a bit, say on the freeway at a level speed the SES light goes out. I can get it to go out by shutting the car off and re-starting it also. Used the paper clip jumper trick to read the codes and got 43-Electronic Spark Control (Knock Sensor).
I read on one sight that this could be due to the timing being too retarded. Re-timed the car, as it was a bit retarded. Now when I run the car, it still codes 43 but the hiccup is not as hard as before. Really need some help here. Don't want to go down the road of replacing a bunch of parts I don't need to.
