Default '84 engine swap compatibility

Hello to all.
This is my first posting on this forum. Looks lik a lot of helpful advice.
I recently bought an '84 really cheap knowing it needed a motor rebuild. Pulled the heads, one was cracked the other had a groove burnt between cyl 5-7. bottom line - with 170K on it I decided to replace it. Needing to buy heads anyway, I started looking for a complete motor to replace it.
Now the problem. I found a '95 crate motor for a really good price.
It is supposed to be 400 HP with a .501/288 cam.
I plan on keeping the cross-fire intake and distributor.
1. Will everything bolt up to the newer style heads?
2. Will the stock intake/injectors even think about feeding this?
3. Will the stock 700R4 tranny stand up to this HP? (assuming it's in good condition)

Thanks for any input.

The more HP ENGINE... the more it costs... I hope its a good deal
Your stock CFI system... will choke out that power option...
To get full potential out of you really should install something like a Holley projection system
Your stock system will let it run... but nothing extreme... But way better then the current engine
At that rate your 700R4 will be fine...with full engine potential the 700 would need beefing up

Thanks for the reply. I think $500 is a pretty good deal for a fresh rebuild. I suspected the CFI wouldn't deliver enough. Do you think porting the intake, boring out the TB's and bigger injectors would do the job? And also do you know if manifolds, alternator, etc will work with the new style Heads?

Depends on if the engine is complete, including harness. Once you start a project like that, it's endless, all the details that is. Do-able yes, practical, no. Motor mounts are different, and I don't think your front rotating parts will bolt up. The LT engine has the distributor behind the water pump, which is also different.

$500.00 is a excellent deal.. if well maintained..
The CFI intake has huge casting blockage.. and would make a big difference when hogged out
You could purchase a adapter for the motor mounts
You would need larger injectors
Now the trouble spots...the CFI intake will not bolt up to 95 heads
Who is going to tune your eprom
As above you may run into accessory issues.

Thanks for the help guys. This did come with a Weind intake if I wanted to switch over to carb and if there's hood clearance. I hear there are issues there also. I guess I better leave this one alone.
Thanks again. you saved me a lot of headaches.

More info;what crate motor?
Which heads? Alum / cast iron /Vortec ??????
Crate engines don't have "years", they are replacements for many years.
You need to find out exactly what engine you are buying.
Will bolt in the same but there are differences that can cause complications

Nowhere did he say it was a 95 Vette (LT1) engine.
Could be garden variety Goodwrench crate engine which is identical to what he has now

FWIW , reg engine mounts bolt to LT1
LT1 has a 4th engine mount bolt hole you don't use

Good point, I never thought it might not be aLT-1 engine.

Oh Duh....CRATE engine. I thought he meant a crated.........oh never mind.

Hopefully it will be a bolt in. if not, there are plenty of good deals on replacement 350's out there. Search locally and find a unit near you that you can hear running before you buy.

You can't go wrong with this one. Its a perfect match. Throw on a set of iron eagle ss heads ($625), port you intake and you'll be very happy.

A blown engine and $500 to replace it ; do it.

We just need more info because there are year to year diifferences that can make it " harder" ; not impossible
Carb fits fine with correct intake and drop base aircleaner
