Default Wiring woes

So just got my 1994 C4 back from the shop. Took It to get inspected and it failed because of the rear brake lights. Whats happening is when you apply the brakes only the center high brake light comes on, none of the others. However, emergency flashers and turn signals work just fine.

You will want to test the wiring at the base of the steering column. White wire from brake light switch feeds the directional switch. directional switch separates that feed into two, yellow and green for left and right brake lights. White live coming up the column with brake switch on, and yellow and green coming out to rear lights. Suspect a poor connection at the directional switch or bad switch.

Are your center console lights working? or your fog lights? I blew a fuse a week or so ago and it stopped my brake lights from working as you mentioned. That fuse also took out my center console lights and fogs lights. just a thought

From the brake switch by the foot pedal. If the center light is working the switch is good. As mentioned earlier, The white wire going up the steering column will take the 12 volts to the hazard switch. Try turning the hazard flasher on and off a few times to kind of clean the contacts.
If you have power on the white wire that goes up the steering column when the brakes are pressed you should get power on the green and yellow wires leaving the steering column. If you don't get power on the green and yellow wires and the white wire is hot then the Hazard flasher is probably bad.

Remember to try wiggling it off and on a few times to see if that helps.

I looked underneath to get a look at the switch, I found two switches, one with wires going too it and one without. Found an orange and white wire too in a plug by themselves but they weren't hooked to anything but they also dont plug into the other switch, kinda confused

Oh my, forget the flasher please. Just find the switch that turns the 4-way flashers on. You know like the lights on all four corners flashing
thingy. Act like you've just pulled to the side of the road and you want folks to see you. Yep. That switch. Not the flasher module....just a switch. Wiggle that switch or turn it off and on a few times. That's it. If that doesn't fix it then you're going to have to check the three wires I mentioned earlier.

Nothing on your monitor or keyboard will repair your problem. You've got to find the White, green and yellow wires and do the tests mentioned by me and others in earlier posts. Really, it's the only way.....honest.

Glad to see you're back on the road with the glowing red thingy's lighting up when you mash the pedal. Have a great day and thanks for letting us know the outcome. So many don't do that. Congratulations and don't be a stranger.

One more question, I have neoprene seat covers that are kinda dirty. Can I wash them in the machine or do I gotta go elsewhere?
