'89 6 speed: Anyone else found this to be true? My dash tach says im idling at about 800 rpm but my autometer tach (I use it the most just easier and quicker to respond) is saying my idle is 600.
I know the autometer is correct cause I know what the engine sounds like. The cruise speed is off by about the same amount. Says 1700 rpm in 6th at 70mph on dash and the autometer reads 1400rpm in 6th at 70mph.
Is there a way to recalibrate the digital dash tach?
A magazine just did an article about this. I wish I could remember. There were some differences in tach readings dependant on the brand. The digital dash may be correct. Why do you need 2 tachs?

Only way I have seen is a guy on 3rd Gen installed a variable resistance pot so he could adjust tacho to true revs .
I know a pot has been used to fix the erratic tacho problems common in the later ('90+) dashes http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-g...ch-repair.html

If you have ever had a aftermarket tacho hooked up ;You will see it is about 30 seconds behind true revs
Not good when you are redline shifting at the drags
FWIW , my tacho has always read accurate; indication just lags behind acutal revs when you hit on it

You have got to be kidding or have had the worst made devices on planet earth even the Chinese could not make something that bad. With your statement if I made a 15 second pass my tach would read 3000 rpm at the end of the run.... and of course the 5500 rpm shift light would never come on for any of the times needed.

I believe Oz was grossly exaggerating for clarity! Probably in the 300-500 millisecond range of lag. Not much to speak of, but huge in this respect and when you can compare it to actual revs.
LOL. You could have went to Radio Shack and bought what you needed!
From what you guys were saying you had to use 3 100s and I wanted to simplify things.I payed 6$ for 100 on line and it will come to me.
Cheaper than a pizza.
Well the digital dash is pretty laggy, I need to see the revs for rev matching for down shifts on track days. Putzing around town is ok for stock dash but when I autocross I put on my autometer in front of the stock dash.
