I have one that's torn and can't seem to find/figure out the replacement procedure in the repair manual. Do you have to drop the tranny? Can it be replaced from the top without having to worry about the transmission falling? It seems the bolts holding it come from the tranny. I'd hate to find out they are supporting it from the underside the hard way. :mad
just to be clear......which boot?
there is one that covers the shift mechanism, there is the outer leather cover in the interior of course, and under that one is another rubber one.
The top two CAN be done from inside the car. It invloves removal of the interior console+dash pieces. If ya need some pics, I can snap some and E-mail em to ya. Mine is dissassembled at this moment as I did my clutch/tranny install Sunday night. I did the hurst shifter too.

Yes, I was refering to the rubber one on the inside directly under the leather one. If it can be done from the inside without worry, then I just might do it myself.
The intake system is still off of the motor. I plan to install the lower superram base today, and attempt the runners and upper plennum. I am nervous after reading bogus's adventure with SPEC. When I fire up the motor, I hope I don't get lots and lots of smoke like he did. How did ya know about the Camaro FW? It's on there. I hope it frees up some useable RPM. I will go snap some pics in a bit. For the most part, surgery on the interior is way more scary to me than the mechanical related items. That and body work!  I'd rather do heater core R/R's or a OPTI's+LT1 plug+wires or #8 header bolts than interior and body work
here is the revealed lower boot. It looks very uncovered only because on mine, I swapped in a Hurst shifter(which I recommend wildly!) and I couldn't figure out how to get the leather boot off of the old stock shifter. That leather boot is held into the console plate by 4 screws. The screw threads/plastic was so brittle, it broke off. Yours may be too so use care. If manage to turn over the console plate, unscrew the 4 screws holding the leather boot for more working room. Only 4 nuts hold a square metal plate over the rubber boot. Should be cake from there. here's from underneath to help give ya reference
