Default c4 lt4 leaking oil temp sensor

My 96 lt4 just started smoking while running. It appears to be oil burning on the exhaust. I do not see any leaks on the valve covers and suspect it is a leaking oil temp sensor, since my dash gauge suddenly shows no reading. Can someone please advise me how to locate the parts and advise on replacement? Thanks!

He accidently posted in the C5 section and the moderator’s moved it.....

but we have issues with oil senders on the C5’s as well, the biggest problem is WHERE GM MOUNTED IT!! You have to pull the intake off to get to damn thing!!

So there you go – people that say the C5 is so much better than the C4, not in all aspects,.....we have our problems too!

The oil temperature sender is just above the oil filter on the side of the block.

This is my vote. Was my problem, anyway.

If it is, go to the GM dealer and get the gasket sealer silicone that they use now on all diesel and gasoline engines. It is in a full size caulk gun cartridge but is only maybe a 1/4 length of full cartridge. Stuff is good and will seal oil pan, timing cover, intake and just about anything else that comes into contact with fuel/oil.
