I have a 1988 vette with an auto... When i am driving slow like through a parking lot, i hear a clunk from the rear going into 3 gear. It goes into 2nd then 3rd and i can feel and hear a cluck. Doesn't do this when driving normally or really getting on it. What could this be...By the way it has 68,000 miles on it.
It just may be that it's going into the next gear. I don't know how loud it is. I had my (700R4) tranny rebuilt just a few months ago and if I'm driving slow and it's switching gears it will make a slight clunk nothing loud just that it's going to another gear.
Mine makes a noise when it downshifts from 2nd to 1st. I was told it's normal. It is also noticable sometimes on the upshifts from 1-2 and 2-3. All noises, like yours, are almost always at slow speeds and/or light throttle.
My 95 does the same thing. I agree with Admiral Blue that it is normal. I have seen this posted here and at other forums, seems a lot C4s have that clunk. Chuck
my 90 does it also, especially in drive and below, it's much less noticeable when the cars in overdrive, try that see if you notice a difference? and when going slow as n coming up to a stop sign is when mine makes the clunk, otherwise i think and feel this is normal, good luck :D
