I'm building an 84 C4 road race car... I'm eliminating the ac compressor and the air pump. Looking for ways to to set up the pulley/belt arrangement to drive the water pump, alt. and power steering pump, Can it be done with the stock locations and brackets? Is there a good aftermarket setup? Will use an underdrive crank pulley. Must use stock type belt(rules).
Thanks for your help,
Bagman
Can you run dual serpentine or stuck with a single?
You can get something like this through CV products all kinds of neat setups. This setup was not cheap.
Beware of the look alike stuff (esp PS pumps) through the speed shops/ebay. They look the part but fly into little pieces at higher rpms.
If its gotta use stock stock stuff TPIS and a few other guys have some good setups with acc. eliminators.
F body setups have some options too that should fit on yours.
3rd gen..some midmount options using factory parts.

Cool! You should be able to just use a shorter belt.
I'm running the TPIS AC delete bracket and smog pump eliminator. Probably the cheapest option you can run. I'm also running underdrive pullies on the crank and alt.
I run mine like this as both these guys have. Underdrive crank pulley, stock pulleys on ps and alt. Just need the correct rotation waterpump, I believe Aardwolf has one for sale in the FS section for a great price right now.
Thanks everybody...Nice looking stuff...
Right now,the cheaper version is appealing. I assume the rod ends are doing the tensioning...I can't see how the PS pump and lower alt. are mounted.Stock brackets? Right now,the engine is out to the engine builder so I have no frame of reference...Is an underdrive alt. pulley neccessary in conjunction with the underdrive crank pulley? Belt #'s?
I like the Tstat housing.
I'm looking for a triY(4-2-1)header...Does anyone know who makes one for a C4?
Thanks,Bagman
I have mine setup like the second picture in Matt's post. I thought I had a picture but I guess not.... The best I can do it the way the alt is mounted (I think I was taking a picture of something else)
Thanks Aardwolf and everybody...I've got it. All of the pictures showed some very nice preparation!! There are a number of track related questions(setup, tire choice etc.) that I'd like to ask as I get closer to the car being ready.
Anytime! Love to talk cars! I've had it in the back of my mind to move the alternator to the passenger side like Matt did. I'm still using the stock brackets etc. Every year I'm amazed that stock PS system lives. Alternator too, it's really spinning to fast at the increased RPM of this setup.
A,Would like to tap into to your knowledge/ on track experience with these cars...I've heard that a PS cooler and Prothane PS additive help...What size and source of pulley would you choose?
B
Back when I started tracking the car the stock PS pump made bad groaning sounds after a few laps. I drained the system and started using Redline synthetic PS fluid and that helped a lot.
After some other projects I put on a cooler instead of the loop in the line. I haven't had any trouble with the system. I am still using the stock pulley and pump. I did drill holes in the pulley so I could quickly access the pump bolts in case it fails.
A,
Very nice, very helpful!! My car is stripped down to cleaned and painted chassis, cage is in,seat has been fitted. doing a complete race suspension at the moment. Though the pulleys and PS is down the road... its good to have these things worked out. We'll have to talk sometime soon...
