Default how do i remove the water pump driveshaft from the engine block (93 lt1?)

Im doing a whole bunch of engine work and am putting in the cloyes ED single roller timing kit since I want to keep a stock mechanical water pump.

I need to remove the water pump drive gear so that I can replace it with the water pump drive gear in the cloyes kit.

The only problem is the water pump drive gear appears to be encased in a bearing which was 'pressed into' the block.

Im tempted to whack it out (I can get to it from the backside) with a hammer.

however, I figure Id consult here first.

Also, once I get the new gear put onto the shaft, how will I put this thing back in?

Yes, just tap it out, then tap it back in.
