Default Battery Box

Anybody use a battery box?

My battery seemed to leak when I had it on the trickle charger over the winter, been considering a battery box to limit the stuff running down the frame because I have a big 2 gauge wire that goes to my batter ground lug and then fro the frame 0 gauge wire, I have another 2 gauge wire that goes to the back of the driver head, and all of my engine and some dash grounds go to that bolt , so effectively, I have all grounds going straight to the battery ground.

Just switch to an Optima. If you are constantly boiling your battery over, you'll need a new one soon anyway.

Optima feed back is pretty negative on the CF

Try an AGM type battery. They won't leak and can be installed in any position. Optima batteries did have a bad rep a few years ago, but IMHO, they are overpriced compared to good standard lead-acid batteries like Interstate or even Sears DieHard.

But is your trickle charger working properly? With an AGM style of battery (Optima or other brand) you will need one that effectively charges very slowly and the current level will drop to only a maintenance charge. Get a Deltran "Battery Tender" or a CTEK charger if you don't have these brands.

I have both my 87 and 02 on the Deltran chargers over the winter and never had an issue with leakage; I have Interstate batteries in both cars.

I have a Battery Tender

Product Features
Temperature-compensated to ensure optimum charge voltage according to ambient temperature
Unique Gel Cell battery adjusted software allows for a slightly lower charge voltage and higher store voltage to protect sensitive true Gel Cell batteries
Charges all lead-acid, flooded or sealed maintenance free batteries (AGM and Gel Cell)
Complete 4-step charging program (initialization, bulk charge, absorption mode and float mode) allows for optimal constant battery levels without overcharging
Automatically switches to float/maintenance voltage mode after fully charging the battery

I have 2 of those which I use on 2 cars stored over winter - neither causes the battery to leak. Just a guess, but maybe its a bad battery.

That's good to know! I got mine at Autozone so, I'll see what they say.
