Default stelth ram info

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
here this may help http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/show...hreadid=101299

the stealth ram works great from 3500rpm to over 7000rpm, (I can still spin the tires at will from idle by simply flooring the gas pedal at idle from a stop or slow rolling start)the reason DOUGs dyno showed a slow down in the hp climb was he was useing a totally stock cam and engine, on my 383 full roller vette motor (11:1 cpr crane #119661 hydrolic roller) the stealth ram pulls ever harder as the rpms climb, I have a rev limiter at 6200rpm and it pegs that if I let it just fine, but because its EFI it still works well in the 1000rpm-3000rpm range but of course everything is a compromize and you do give up some low end torque to get that great high rpm flow, on my vette it feels like I lost about 25ft lbs down low and gained about 100 hp in the 5000rpm-6200rpm range, for a hot street daily driver I would go for a CROWER #00483 or a CRANE #119831 as my 119661 is just not all that happy below 2000rpm(it was not happy with the modifyid TPI or MINI RAM either BELOW 2000rpm if you think of the stealth ram as a tunnel ram intake with none of the bad carb problems and all of the good EFI features youll get the IDEA. BUT KEEP IN MIND Im useing a modifyed 1985 vette ECU and a more modern ECU will give far better results and more that likely a better torque curve too.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the stock throttle body and brackets bolt right on and work just fine!I used a stock L98 throttle body for testing and an EDELBROCK 58mm after I got it adjusted, both worked with no problems at all,on my vette I installed the injectors, fuel rails, throttle body and some of the brackets as a unit, most parts were directly swapped from the TPI intake, the only major differance was that on my 1985 vette has a 9th injector for the cold start/idle and this is not a design feature on the stealth ram, I overcame this by drilling out the center of a 1/8" pipe plug fitting and J&B welding the 9th injector in the center of the drilled out 1/8' pipe plug , I screwed this into the back of the steath ram and silver soldered a adapter fitting to the fuel feed tube and extended the wireing for the electrical connection, everything else was standard,of course only the early TPI systems had that 9th injector so you will not need to do that on most of the TPI set-ups, the stealth ram allowed my engine to still pull hard at a self imposed 6400rpm redline while the stock TPI died at about4400- 4700rpm and a super ram I owned seemed to start running out of air at about 5400-5700rpm, the higher the rpms the better the STEALTH RAM WORKS but it seems to work every bit a as well from 3500rpm and up as the super ram from what the car feels like, no I have not yet put it on a dyno but theres no doubt the car is faster, Ill get it to the track for testing as soon as I fix the hood clearance problem, and btw the stock TPI measures about 8.6" tall in the front and about 9" tall in the back and the holley STEALTH RAM is 10" tall full length which in the case of my 1985 vette is about 3/4" too tall for the hood to close fully.

Glad to see some results from this. I'll really be interested in seeing what it does on some other stock or mildly modified engine combo's as well as track results. I'm still waiting to hear if anyone figures out a way to fit this onto a vette.

grumpy you said you had the super ram do you think the stealth is making more power than that and at what rpm range what about torque compared to super ram also :chevy

I dont have dyno numbers or track results yet, but seat of the pants feeling is that the super ram and , stealth ram have quite similar total power but the stealth ram has a deffinite advantage in the higher rpm range, and moves the torque curve higher in the rpm range my stealth ram seems to pull harder the higher I wind the engine while the super ram seemed to start running out of air around 5700-6000rpm but have a fatter torque curve in the 3000-5000 rpm range , but remember the cam timeing, engine displacement and dynamic compression ratio has alot to do with the engines rpm range and torque curve, a few cam swaps may give me the better mid-range with the stealth ram also, only time and experiance will tell, haveing tryied all the commonly available intakes now,(stock TPI,modifyied TPI,BIG MOUTH BASE with siamesed SLP runners and ported plenum, super ram, stealth ram, mini ram,and a EFI converted super victor with throttle body 90 deg adapter, and 4 barrel throttle body with MAF converted air feed ) Id say the super ram and the stealth ram are the better choices so Id say that with a hot 383-406 sbc you will be way better off with one of those two intakes than a stockTPI setup, and if you have a 406-427 that your spinning to 6500rpm plus the stealth ram should easily be the better choice, with a 383 it will depend on your gearing, its close to a even up deal, but with a 350 the super ram may be the better choice, but like I said remember the cam timeing, engine displacement and dynamic compression ratio has alot to do with the engines rpm range and torque curve , another thing to keep in mind is the stealth ram intake is quite a bit cheaper but you will need hood mods ,that the super ram does not require so total cost will be similar or slightly higher with the stealth ram. and also keep in mind Im useing a highly modifyied 1985 vette ECU and thats far from an IDEAL ECU, a laptop programable ECU can easily get more hp from the STEALTH RAMS far greater air flow potential, Im going to need to swap/upgrade to get the huge differance in air flow used more effectively

Just curious, how will you close the hood on the Vette ?

Thanks
