May have one problem with two results. Recently purchased this 85 and have been sorting out a number of issues so havn't had a chance to drive it much. However, today I traveling down the freeway at 60 and the engines dies. This happened twice. My foot was off the gas pedal both times. I pump the gas pedal, without using the starter, and the engine fired right back up. Also, something is up with the idle. At a stop, with my foot on the brake the idle is about 760 but if I shift to neutral the rpm goes up to 1100rpm and then varies rpms. Anybody have thoughts?
Thank'
JW
Fuel pump? inline fuel filter clogged? the idle inconsistency could be a lot of things, vacuum leak, injectors, sensors, etc. scan it before throwing parts at it
Check your TPS voltage as you move the throttle from idle to fully open (engine off). It should increase steadily when you do this and not jump around. The TPS might have some bad spots.
All very good suggestions. Certainly sounds like it could be something flaky with the idle control.
You know several years ago I saw a Corvette that looked good from the road sitting at one of these very shady used car dealers. One day at lunch I stopped in to take a look. It was beat to complete crap but the guy told me "it runs out nice." To which my first thought was "runs out of what?"
