Well.. the time has come.. I cant put it off any longer.. seeing as my car leaks like a strainer when it rains out!! I need to replace the weather stripping. Is this a job that can be easily done by ones self?? Or is it something I should have someone do for me?? How big of a job is it?? Ecklers sells a kit, for like 800 bucks that includes all of the weather stripping I need.. is this good stuff? Or should I go with something else??
Well I've done the 78, haven't done the 86 yet, it's on my list of things to do. Might want to check out corvette rubber's products. I bought from them last time and got good friendly service.
There's also more weather stripping then what comes in the kit. The kit just provides the main components, but theres other pieces in the doors jambs, hood stripping, and stuff.
As for installation, I haven't done it yet so I'm sorry I cannot provide any real tips.

Thanks for the corvette rubber suggestion!!! Found them online, and for the strips I need to replace, I am only looking at $500, rather then $700 with Ecklers!! :) .. That means $200 more towards the "repaint the vette" fund!! :)

Re: Weather stripping replacement (MarkLT1)
I did a few pieces on my car a couple oh months ago. Just remember to take your time. Mineral Spirits will dissolve the adhesive for the old weather stripping. Iv never put any weather striping on a car before. It was pretty easy, and the job looked great.
Patience is a must.
Make sure to use the OEM soft rubber seals. Safelite replace the windshield and molding on my vette. There swore up and down that the new seal used was OEM. The crap was really hard rubber. Leaks everywhere. They installed new real OEM rubber, no more leaks.
:smash:
I bought my weather stripping for my top from TLD and they shipped GM original stuff, they were also the lowest price place I could find. Might try them and put more $ in the repaint fund.
What do you all think about the weather strips that are for sale here on the forum in the "C4 Restoration" section? They seem pretty cheap, the whole kit is in the $500 range, couple hundred cheaper than any other kits i've seen. Any ideas?

What is TLD?? I could definatly use more $$$ in the repaint fund!! :)
Never heard of TLD. Sounds like I might want to. How's Jeff Kopp's prices at GM? I know he's gotta work within GM guidelines but he does a great job with most parts.
Humm.. I am trying to figure out which pieces I need (well, their descriptions anyway). I have a coupe.. and need 1) the piece that goes up the front driver side pillar, over to the top of the windshield, and down the passenger side.. The pieces that are on each side of the targa top, the piece that goes up the rear pillar, above the passenger's heads, and down the otehr side.. and the hatch strip. Also, I see "retainers" listed.. do I need these??

That may be the harder rubber that's why its cheaper. Not sure though.
