I went to autozone for a dist. cap & rotor for my 90 c4 now the question is they only had a MSD cap with brass inside but it didnt screw on it has the spring 1/4 turn locking lugs. where as my car has screws. Will that work? other wise its napa.

Ive heard of guys making them work but me personally I tried one and it came loose which made a mess when the rotor hit it.

No, It won't work.

There is nothing for the 'clips' to grab on to.

Take it back and get the right one.

I know, because I just went through the same thing. I asked for the 'Corvette' cap and they gave the the MSD 'GM' one instead.

BTW. The right one is 'gray'.

Go to Summitracing site and order one of the Accel caps. There $20.00 cheaper and just as good, with all brass contacts...WW

Taylor also makes a screw-down cap and rotor kit.

I had ordered an MSD cap from Summit and it turned out their part number info is wrong; they show MSD L98 Corvette caps but they are the spring clamp type. The MSD catalog on their own website shows the same incorrect part number. Returned the MSD Cap and got the Taylor cap. It's heavier (thicker wall) than the MSD Cap and costs about 3 bucks less.

most napa stores have them also, and pep boys, if any of the chains stores dont have the cap or for that matter the part you need , they can usually have it there in a few hours depending on the location, hope this helps

The latch caps are used on the early c4s (at least on my 84). I'm not sure when they switched over to the screw caps.

My 85 has the screw cap as well. I also bought Taylor. High quality and brass terminals. It came in red, matching my wires and car. You cant really see it much but I like it.

I got one of the latch caps and cut off the latches to try to make it work. The holes for the latches are weird and I couldn't find a screw with a head shape that would work.

That mistake was made by me as well. Bought it from Autozone and ended up returning it. I have since replace the distributor to MSD small cap.
