Must I get a Chip with this set-up
- CompCams XR269HR cam with a 218/224 duration @50, 495/503 lift, and a 112 lobe separation.
- Heads, minor port work, new stock size valves, 7/16 studs, hardened guide plates, new springs
- CompCams 1.5 Roller rockers
- New roller lifters, new push rods
- Roller timing chain
- Accel TPI base
- Edelbrock water pump with a 180 t-stat.
I am in the process of moving so I need to complete this quickly however, I will be adding larger injectors, better flowing runners and porting the plenum, possibly with a larger throttle body at a later date.
Do you think I can run the car with this setup, Im thinking that the car wont idle? If I will need a chip can you reccomend someone who can do a good job and turn it around in two weeks.
Oh its a 1988 L-98, the only other mods are a K&N with an open air mod and flowmaster mufflers.
Thanks for your thougts,
Joe
I think the mass-air systems (which yours is) can adjust +/- 20%. But, that's just for airflow changes. I think when you change injector size, the calibration of the system is completely off.
The computer (through the mass air sensor) is able to determine exactly how much air is entering the engine. It makes calculations about how long the injectors must be pulsed to accomodate that amount of air. It knows how much fuel will be delivered based on the injector flow rate information supplied in the calibration.
For that reason, I think you need a new calibration. I hear Ed Wright is the best. But, if you'd like to do it yourself, there's a lot of people on the net who will help you.
