Why would you waste time making a 2 pc work?

'86 & up Gen 1 one piece rms block will work. These things are a dime a dozen, especially the 2-bolt variety that are easily converted to 4-bolt splayed mains.

2 pc rms crank will need the correct oil pan, seal adapter, and flywheel, just to start. also your 90 has a spider adapter to hold the roller lifters in place, price some roller lifters with the tie bar. 1 pc rms assy seals better and longer than 2 pc.

How about a 4-bolt-main SBC from a late 1980's pickup? That's what I used.

I have a chance to buy a forged 350 short block pretty cheap, but he dosent seem to know the year, or the make of the car it came from.

its cheap enough that id be willing to buy new heads, and a new flywheel and cam. and all the parts seem to be top notch if they were really installed corectly.

question is will it bolt in, will the acsesories hook up and will the TPI and computer work?

he had the work professionally done on a core block that he got from someone else, best he can tell me is it is a 4 bolt 010 block.

its an early 2 pc rms motor.

You can convert a 1pc to 2 not sure you can do it the other way around.

hmm, I beleive you are correct, It may be that the article i read was sayng that it was possible with a flexplate swap?

he wants less then the cost of parts for the short block, if its posible at all id like to do it, so a few hundred to change some things over is no big deal, and I was thinking of picking up some afr or dart heads and building a complete new motor before doing the swap, so i could drive the car till i had all the parts

If it has a 2 piece seal, its no big deal. You just need the flywheel to match. The bad part is, its probably got a flat tappet cam.

Am I to take it that there is not a way around a flat tappet cam?

sbc? yup, it fits, no further questions your honor.

You can use retrofit roller lifters
Running a solid roller on an early 2 pc rms motor.
Probably use a cam button as there is no retainer plate
7-8 thou endplay is good. Can run it a little tighther if you like.

IIRC, my OEM & 4-bolt replacement block has 638 stamped on it. (Even though this chart shows a longer ID#. I guess they stamp the last 3 digits?)
