As to whether your car has the 4L60E, it depends on your vin # and whether youre a later number or an earlier one.
If you put a D44 w/ 3.73s in youll need to reprogram your speedo, youll need a calibrator to do that, thats in ecklers or MidAmerica. You wont need a chip and i dont believe youll need to reprogram shift points for just a gear change, though i could be wrong on that one.
More questions about the 3:73 gears replacing my 2:59's.
What all exactly has to be done? Speedometer gears? shift points? Chip?
dana 44 I know about. What else?
Also, does my 93 Ruby have the electronic transmission?
Thank you for your replies.
You don't have an electronic tranny - you have a 4L60 (the newly renamed 700R4). To do gears, you have to replace the stock differential with new gears or a newly geared diff (duh), and the speedo gears located in the tail shaft of the tranny. Regarding the tail shaft - there are two gears to replace, a speedo sensor and you should also replace the tail shaft gasket while you're in there. I have an Ed Wright FastChip, so I'm not too sure about the whole shift point issue. I went with 3.54s vs 3.73s due to the fact that the 3.54s are supposed to be more durable. Apparently, the 3.73s are not as internally strong as the 3.54s. The RPM difference is negligible between the 3.54s and 3.73s - I turn 2200 RPMs at 65mph.
I thought that the 4L60E was transitioned into the build run during the later portion of the '93 models. Is this false?
I had heard this also, but one of the Corvette Guru's (I forget the person's name) corrected me on the forum that no 1993's had them. It makes sense because the 4L60E use the later PCM (instead of a ECM) to control the tranny.
That corvette guru was David F. And just for your info, mine was built in april 93 and it has a 4L60, no E version in mine. And I dont believe you would get much latter Then April 93 production. They would be changing over to the 94's shortly afterwards. I think part of the misunderstanding comes from the E version was used in some GM models in 93, just not the Vette.
