If they are 2 bolt, how much HP typically can this take? Pistons, rods, and crank should be the first to get upgraded for increased HP I know, but how much until the main is a concern?
The LT1 in the Vette was a 4 bolt, the LT1 in everything else was a 2 bolt. As for HP, well I've seen a 2 bolt engine stand an F-body onto the bumper. The shot of nitrous required to do that put him up to around 600 rwhp. He had forged pistons and rods with a stock crank and stock block. He MIGHT have ARP main studs or bolts, I'm not sure.
With this in mind the 2 bolt is very strong. A 4 bolt is exteremely strong and you shouldn't ever have any trouble with it. However if you do have trouble you can go for the ultimate in strength, 4 bolt splayed. I imagine this would take just about anything you could possibly throw at it. Chances are ANYTHING else will break before you have trouble with a 4 bolt or 4 bolt splayed block.
I believe the car was fine except for the fact that he cracked his bellhousing on the way down. He did run it again that day though, but on a much milder shot of NAUWS!
