Default Decisions: Cat or Catless???

I am interested in this exhaust system:

http://www.vettesupply.com/products/...st-System.html

My question is whether I should go catless and delete the air and egr, or get the high flow cats and other connections.

What my project will look like when I am done is mega ported plenum, slp runners, base. 1.6rrs, cam, exhaust, tune. I just need to button down what cam and exhaust system I will go with. I am closer to pulling the trigger on the exhaust.. Hence this thread.

I don't mind spending the money for this system. I have heard really good things about it and it looks like a well put together system.

Going the catless route saves an additional $150 bringing it to $1445

Use cats for a street car.

Why? I don't have to worry about emissions in my state.

Here's what I recommend:

Run w/o cats and see if you can tolerate the exhaust odor.

If you can, then leave be (w/o cats).

If its nasty then add on random tech hi flow metal substrate cats.

If you got any kinda cam, they puke out fumes (unburned hc) at idle. I'm talking the kinda smell that sticks to your clothes and makes my whole house stink e ven though you just had it idling in the garage for 20 seconds.

I don't think you're going to lose that much HP from running cats and I went with cats because of all the talk about the smell.

I HATE THAT SMELL,my cloth,my hairs, and for sure my neighbours hate me ...probably my car is running rich, and burns some oil too,the result is an intolerable smell,my cat was deleted by previous owner ,probably an hi flow cat is the best

I agree with the above , it will stink without cats.. The cats now days are so open you can see right through them, not much restriction at all on mine , just looks like a screen in the center....WW

Thats a bubba myth that cats kill your power on a steet car. if for NO OTHER reason, consider the guy behind you and the people that you subject to the stinky nasty air that you make as you drive. Some folks will laugh and say "so what, or screw them, its MY car"...tell that to YOUR pregnant WIFE as she inhales your polluted exhaust. THAT seems to make a difference for most with any sort of a conscience.
Would you make YOUR family breath that dirty exhaust? Then don;t make mine do that please. Cats solve that problem. Not perfect by any means but they are a great improvement over open exhaust.

It amazes me that we keep seeing this question on ALL the boards. When folks go to a track they are aware of what they are about to subject them selves to...but on a drive to Church, they did not ask for stinky polluted air for their kids to inhale.

The cat myth was true 40 yrs ago...it was like trying to exhale thru a kitchen sponge. Now they are so free flowing, near zero restriction that its NOT a big deal. You can SEE thru them. Hows that block exhaust gas flow?

Grow with the times...move into the 21st century. Cats are harmless to street cars and the air mngt system does have certain benefits to the motor.

Off the soap box to go work on the car.....

You can put on long tube headers, delete the cats, and still retain your emissions controls. Or not. It's up to you.

Thank you everyone for your input. My driving will be mostly street, with the occasional autocross. Since I will probably never be putting down enough power or screaming the rpm to the high heavens to realize any advantages with catless, I will opt for hi flow cats.

A link to headers does not explain how the removal of converters allows you to retain emission's controls. WTF?

Just figured out what he meant. To be more clear, he could have said you can delete cats but retain the AIR hook-up. Probably not for the average person since those deleting cats would likely delete AIR too. And, the AIR system is in place to heat up your cats faster. Why would you need/want that w/o cats?
