How about your catalytic converter(s)??? Are they good??? A clogged cat (here we go again!) will cause backfires, stuttering, erratic idle, low top speed, stalling, etc...

If an exhaust leak is bad enough, you will actually hear it. Sounds like a ticking noise that follows the engine speed. It is easier to locate using a vacuum extension (hard plastic tube) and listen through it while the car is running and you are pointing it down the exhaust. It will let you pin point any leaks. They will sound lie a little drum through the tube whereas it will be pretty quiet where there are no leaks.
