Default fluid capacity on braking system

Drive a 1989 withI c5 calipers on front. About to switch to the super blue and need to know capacity. Reason is I have to open the 1liter can so my friend has a z3 bmw and if im opening it, I might as well use it all than just throw it away.

Will I have enough for mine and maybe his front brakes?

I seem to recall being able to flush my car with one qt of parts store fluid ($6), so you should easily be able to get by with a liter if you don't over do it and waste a bunch. I might suggest using some cheap DOT 3 to clean out and pre-flush the system, then you will have to use much less high temp premium fluid..just do enough until you see the color change- the system was already bled with the cheap stuff.

I have the C5 calipers.

Well do you mean I should have enough to do my system or both mine and my friend's?

I'm not sure of the question.....use what you have and if you need more go to Walgreens/Walmart/CVS/Right aid/Kroger and buy some more.....

And, I am sorry, but I don't buy into the logic that unused fluid needs to be thrown away immediately.

People talk about moisture permeating into the fluid.

Tell me, you have two sealed vessels holding the same fluid......one is yellow plastic and on your shelf, the other is clear plastic and in your car......

"if" one allows moisture to permeate and "ruin" the fluid, how does the other not allow moisture to permeate and "ruin" the fluid????

Think about it, the Yellow plastic bottle with a lid on it on your shelf is actually more stable as it is not moving fluid back and forth like your clear plastic bottles on your MC are doing......

Well first off, the fluid im using is not available in stores. It is much higher boiling point. From what I have read this particular brand absorbs the moisture faster. And the wet boiling point is way lower than the dry so any moisture could compromise my brakes on the track. Not something I want to chance at 120mph and brakes stop working.

As for moisture permiating the container, not what im concerned about. Its the fact when I open the container, its exposed, when I close it back there is air in the container that the fluid will absorb. Along with a container that prob wont completely close perfectly. I live in sumter sc and it is basically a swamp. Humidity here is super high.

Risking compromising my brakes is not worth the 15 bucks to order another liter. Thing im asking is about my buddy. If im going to throw it away I might as well give him the extra and do both cars.

Another thing is this fluid is blue, the next can will be amber so I know I have completely gone through the system so the can I open and use would be sitting for about 2 years till it was used again, and then it might not be enough for two flushes so id be opening another blue fluid to top it off and the cycle continues.

Better to just use a can for a flush and move on. Not worth saving a few bucks for peace of mind and helping a friend.

Lemme ask you, once place your fluid into the reservoir, isn't it exposed to air and moisture at that point?

I wonder who floated this thing about the fluid going bad after it is opened.....it wouldn't be something that the manufacturer put forth would it??? I mean, someone that has an incentive??? Someone that makes more money each time you purchase brake fluid?
