I noticed last weekend coming back from the Gathering in BG that my A/C was putting out warm air. The system I have in my '88 was completely changed to R134a about 4 yrs ago. I bought the recharge kit and went to hook up the gauge to the low side to check pressure. Only problem is I can't tell which one is the low side. I know it's suppose to have a blue cap for low and a red cap for high side, but all my caps are black. And, the lines appear to be the same size (knowing the low side is the bigger one). There are 2 fittings on the silver canister and one on a line going to the cooler in front of the radiator. One on the canister is kind of pointing towards the radiator, the other pointing directly at the passenger's side front wheel. Which one of these is the low side connection? Any help is appreciated.
Yeah, I see that. Only problem is that there are 2 connections with dust caps on the drier canister. Not sure which one is the right one, both are same size.
That's a universal GM replacement Drier (the only one available from GM) and both fittings will give you the low side reading. One of the fittings is there for a low pressure switch which is mounted there on some GM models (not the Vette). Stock only had the one fitting. Make sure the Drier isn't hitting the hood. That second fitting doesn't allow the Drier to sit squarely in the bracket and the bracket needs to be cut down or notched for the Drier to fit correctly.
