Default exhaust manifold removal

I am getting ready to remove my exhaust manifolds on my 93'. They look like that they have never been removed. Any tips, tricks and no-no's to know ahead of time? I have never done this on a vette.

Why are you taking them off?

PBlaster, let it soak over night, give it a few shots.
Go slow, take your time, those are ALUMINUM heads.
If it feels tight taking it out, stop, go back in and try again. Slow and steady. Heat wrench (torch) maybe needed depends on how bad they are.

I am going to put headers on. I may take the heads off completely. Then I can have the valve seals replaced and the heads cleaned up all around.

You can replace the valve seals with the heads on. Generally, with good maintenance (oil changes), they shouldn't need much cleaning up besides gasket material.

Take your time, driver side is HARD because of the AC and alternator support brackets. TAKE pictures. I did the AIR delete with my headers. The AIR pipes were the hardest thing to take off. I landed up just cutting them off the headers because I knew I was deleting them. Pull the oil dip stick out, then to take the tube out just pull up towards you.

The AIR pipes look like they could be tough. Taking pictures is always a good idea.

As mentioned above, the AIR tubes are near impossible. I ended up cutting mine too.

Also, the cat brackets are a royal PIA. I found no way to get a the bolts holding them on so I cut those as well.

Before i cut them (the air pipes), I want to buy new ones. I checked like auto zone and advance autoparts online and they did not list them. Where did you guys buy yours?

I'm about to tackle this project with my car too. I think that my AIR pipes are going to have to be cut too. Hell, I'm just hoping that I can get my headers off without snapping a bolt or worse.

Support the Cat underneath with a floor jack to take the weight off.
Careful of 02 sensors, easy to strip off the air injection nuts ect

Again especially with exhaust stuff, penetrating oil/spray and oxy-acetalyene torches work wonders. Blow torch or small butane hand held torch are better for smaller stuff.

Go slow, heat it up red, and should loosen right up. Better to heat the nuts rather than the bolts, use common sense.

Could try that cold freeze spary too.

I just did this 2 weeks ago on my '93. For the AIR pipe on the passenger side exhaust mainfold, i believe i used a 5/8 crows foot; it was a B*&%$ as mine had never been removed and was very very rusty. PB Blaster is your friend, use alot. I used alot of PB Blaster, but it was so tight when i removed the pipe not much if any had made it down the threads, maybe yours will be different. For the drivers side pipe...if you can remove the rubber hose from the pipe, just turn the pipe; the nut is not free spinning like the passenger side (at least mine wasnt, maybe i got lucky). But, i was able to remove the entire system without having to cut or bend or break anything, though the nuts are a little boogered up now. Hope this helps.
