Timing will effect idle speed and vacuum so first.
Know that the factory timing spec on the L83 is incredibly conservative. If you're feeling..."Adventurous", set the timing a good bit more advanced than stock. May people like to recommend a certain spec (people seem to like 6* for some reason), but I recommend "feeding it what it wants". My particular combo "wanted" 12*. There is 10-20 hp just in timing on those things. Factory setting was ridiculous.
