I've been doing some test and its time to buy a new fuel pump. I notice that the stock pump fails to maintain pressure over 2500-3000 rpm and drops off radically above that speed. I want a decent pump thats a direct drop-in replacement without going exotic. Whats the reccomended replacement ? Is there a pump from a later yr model that will give the extra fuel vol & pressure or do I need to go aftermarket?
I was pretty shocked at how far the pressure drop was under hard accelleration and into higher rpm....about a 50% drop in pressure. It levels right out when the rpm stabilizes but under accelleration it just plain stinks......
Racetonix had a nice sale and I got a Walbro 190 lph with install kit from them. It's great! After switching to E85 and 46 # injectors I thought it may be to little flow. After testing it's still fine! A lot of people get the 255 lph since it doesn't cost that much more. There could be some advantages with not overflowing the system though. Fuel may end up cooler and less amp draw. I have around 350 hp if that helps.
I installed a Walbro 255 a few years ago and never looked back. Been working fine ever since. I think I paid about $65 - $75 for the pump which was a direct drop in replacement.
I bet you have a clogged filter and pump "sock", when you change the pump use the green screen "sock", it stays rigid and open. I had a Carter and a small cloth "sock" that was filthy and probably was collaspsing under load. The pump worked so I kept it as a back-up and bought a new screen "sock" for it, I re-installed a new A/C delco direct replacement, the pressure is 49psi key-on and 38 at idle. Car runs awsome and I swear by Delco stuff.I picked mine up from Global Automotive of Miami part # EP375 and it was around 50 bucks.

I appreciate the input. I already went thru the pump/strainer and filter. The pump screen did have some gel goop that was blocking the inlet but thats been cleaned and its all clear. Without vac on the regulator I easily get over 50 psi but the flow drops radically under hard accelleration when the inj are really opened up dumping fuel in...from 50+ psi to 20 during that time. Not acceptable.
For the price that "kit" is a no brainer. Stock pumps cost almost that, so I'll be ordering one here real soon....
I considered a ZR1 duel pump/sender assy that is available but thats more plumbing and adapting stuff and still limited by the steel tubing ability to carry a specific amount of fluid under pressure. A better pump that can keep up with the engine demand is the simple solution...
Thanks guys !
