Default shift kit

This is what I am trying to achieve: to have my transmission shift into gear at a little higher rpm and down shift a little sooner. Basically make it appear and sound like I am shifting a manual. My transmission is going to be overhauled soon and I am thinking shift kit. Anyone that has one installed, please dime in and tell me your thoughts and experiences.
This is what I have now:
1. shorty headers and free flowing stainless exhaust
2. heads on the exhaust ported to the headers
3. 1.6 rockers
4. k and n air filter
5. chip tuned to these mods coming real soon
The basic stuff

A shift kit alone will not do what you want to achieve unless you convert to full manual control. It will firm up shifts and allow you to hold each gear if you choose to shift it manually. Automatic shift points on your 93 are controlled by the governor in the tailshaft of the transmission. B&M makes a governor kit that allows you to change weights and springs to raise or lower shift points, but it is strictly trial and error until you get the correct result.

It will take a number attempts swapping out the springs and weights. I spent a lot of time popping the governor cap off and on. Didn't get it perfect until I switched to a 4l60e.

I do love performance and the feel of performance. I dont have the cash for the big horsepower right now but, is this worth the effort for the average Joe like me?

Sure it is. You might just pop the cap off, remove the governor and file or grind the weights slightly. That will raise your wot shift points. Do it little at a time. That might be all you will need and it won't cost a dime. Make sure you tv cable is adjusted properly. If it is not tight, your transmission will shift early.

Give you something to do over the weekend. You should be able to pop the governor cap off with the exhaust in place. Some 700s come with a wire retainer, some don't. Remove the retainer and use a large screwdriver and mallet or prybar to remove the cap. To reinstall the cap, I used the head of an old bar type torque wrench with an 11/16 socket on the end to pound the cap back in tapping the outside edge of the cap. Don't pound the middle. Good luck.
