Depends. My 93 sat for 2 years before I purchased it. When I first went to fill it up it scared the crap out of me as the pressure must have been really high. Since then, I filled it up twice and got very little hiss when I opened the gas cap. I think if your car sat in the cold for a while then warmed up and you got gas after that cycle it will be under a good bit more pressure.

It's fine... Our cars have a sealed gas cap... I was surprised but when I got mine inspected they pressure tested the gas cap with a big fancy machine... I asked the guy why bother and he said bc until 2003 we need a gas cap that doesnt leak so fumes done cause a fire...
