Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum and to my 1992 C4. I've played with Gen1 engine for yrs. Built many SBC but this car has a lot of stuff under the hood(not just HP). I have 2 nioses that I wanted your opinion on. These are not engine nioses, not knocks or taps but a niose that I think may be the bearing in the alternator. The other one sounds like a vacuum cleaner, but is not always there just hear it sometimes. Do you think it is the fan? I am not panicing but figured why not ask the C4 guys. I am guessing that these nioses may be common. Thanks
There is a blower on a 93 thats mounted below the drivers side headlight. Its supposed to run for a few seconds at a time. Its about the size of a round headlight and is mostly black plastic.
Take a long screw driver and place the metal end on the top of the alternator and then place the plastic end at your ear. You can use this like a stethoscope ....listen for bearing noise.
Check your air filter cover. If the prior owner cut the cover out, this will have a tendency to give you that vacuum noise. The radiator fan is usually a different noise......like a fan .
Thanks!! It does sound like it coming from driver's side head light. Good Idea with the screwdriver too. I love this forum. People here want to help!! I started posting on another forum and got attacked and told my car was worthless.. So happy to find you guys. Thanks again.
PS now if I can get some help with my broken door lock, please...
