In My 1994 Vette, when I let out the clutch to start moving, I get a little clunk in the left rear. I was going to replace u-joints but could not see a problem and the noise isn't a clanking noise like normal u-joint problems. When I dropped the left leaf spring the bushing was worn out and the bolt was shiney, indicating metal to metal. I have ordered new bushings. Could this be causing My clunking noise?
How old are your u-joints? Personally I won't rule out a u-joint again until I've taken it off the car and talked to it for a while :P Seriously tho, I had one fail that showed no outward signs and I couldn't see how bad it was until I had the half shaft free from one end.
Suspects in addition to the bushings you've found:
U-joints (remember there are six of them back there!
Bearings
That little teflon coated washer on the spindle
(This washer fits between the rear bearing and the yolk from the half shaft. It is metal with teflon coating.
That washer is part number 14076924 WASHER, WHL SPDL )
MANLEYONE- I have a 1994 coupe with a six speed and I am having a similiar noise. my car has 123k on it and is in, seemingly normal shape. I just replaced my clutch hydraulic system and corrected all of my shifting issues. I seem to get the noise when I go from reverse to forward, as wll as taking off from a stop. It seems like a trailing arm bushing, maybe leaf spring bushing as you indicated. Please advise of what you find, or pm if you want. My noise is more of a clunk, as opposed to u-joint noises, but u-joints are always tricky. It sounds like the left side, but drivetrain noises are deceiving.
