My spring project this year is to install sound insulation and new carpet in my 94 6 speed coupe. I'm looking for advice on where to purchase these products. Anyone have experience with this project? Is one layer of insulation sufficient to eliminate road noise and heat? I've seen where some have used multiple layers. I want to do this right the first time. Any tips on doing the doors? Is there existing glue that has to be removed? Thanks in advance.

I've done many different things over the years with different cars. I've used PPG sound deadening undercoat on the inside of door skins and followed that up with dyno-mat behind the panel. On some cars (not Vette's) I've used a HVAC isulation mats on the floor and used spray glue to adhear it. I've seen "lizard skin" used as undercoating to keep heat out of the cabin and that stuff looks real good. You also need something pretty thin on the inside cabin, otherwise it'll mess with how the carpet lays.

I did my 1990 with a closed cell foam I bought from Costco, they were actually floor mats, but they were about 1/2" thick. They did the job very well, but I had to trim a little around the seats, and even after, the seats don't have the same freedom as movement as they did before I added the foam. I may go back in and trim them some more some day.
I cleaned the metal surfaces and used a spray on adhesive, which worked pretty good.
I used the foam mats from Costco because I was really cheap (actually I simply didn't have the money to do it right). But even so it made a pretty huge difference. When I first went for a test drive I thought my rear hatch popped open on me because there was so much more noise coming from behind the seats then in the cabin itself.
The "cowboy" guy has pre cut insulation in the C4 for sale section, when I get carpet, I ill buy his stuff, I just bought several parts from Willcox and they have quality door panels, carpet etc.

If you are after door panels, we have them cheaper in the forum sale section of the site than on the retail side... plus if you use the current sale discount coupon code you'll save an additional 10 percent off that price.
