I replaced the EGR pipe shield on my early '86 iron head L98. After about two hours of normal operating temperatures, the new shield looks worse than the old one I replaced! It turned very dark brown, almost black. Has anyone else had this problem or is it just shoddy quality from Eckler's? Thanks for any responses.

Re: EGR Pipe Shield Question? (CG77VETTE)
I had an Ecklers replacement on for a few years, then removed it for some work and then forgot to put it back on. Found it today in the garage and it looks new.
Strange thing is it came in a GM part bag, but was an open design so I could staple it on. Most folk here have reported that the GM part comes stitched closed like the orginal. Strange.
If exhaust gasses are very hot I guess you could roast any cover. Could you be running rich?
