Clicking noise
I was racing yesterday and on the last run when I let off I heard a fast clicking sound coming from the car. It almost sounded like a baseball car in a bike spoke kinda sound. As soon as I slowed down for the turnoff it stopped and didn't come back even on the 45min drive home (was up to 130mph). Any thoughts of the noise? All lubes are fresh, Just cheked the u-joints and bearings last month? Guess I'll have to get under it tonight to check it out.

I had a similar incident on a race car recently. The same noise was observed and traced to one of the rear hub/rim area. However, as things cooled off, it went away. A tear down later in the week revealed nothing of concern. There was no metal fatigue anywhere, no excessive wear or failure observed in any of the wheel bearings or u joints. And the brakes looked real good. Our hypothesis was that in the heavy braking, excessive heat built up and distorted a machine surface somewhere and caused the sound that we observed. It could have been just distorted metal or an actual expansion that caused excessive tolerances somewhere. We have inspected and reinspected everything and still do not have evidence of the cause of the sound.
