Default 85 cat-back system on a 94???

Quick question:
Does anyone know if a cat-back system off a 85 corvette will fit on my 94 LT1?
I have the opportunity to buy one for dirt cheap ($50) and was wondering if it would fit or will there need to be some fabrication done?
Thanks for the help!

i really have to ask, WHY would you want to do that??? definitely not a plug and play, and probably more trouble than any savings you'll get by buying a $50, 85 cat back. i'm sure it can be done, but i also see a big can of worms here...

It will not and you don't want it. Now you could take the mufflers off and put them on your car. What type of system is it and what size?

Look at this and you will see the difference. I went from L98 85-91 exhaust to 93 exhaust on my 91.

It is a straight cat-back with no mufflers. I was already looking into getting muffler eliminators and removing the resonator on my current system but due to CA smog requirements I need those mufflers. So I was thinking about buying the straight pipes with no mufflers and swapping them with mine, then when it comes time for my smog next yr I can just switch back my current system

The mufflers have nothing at all to do with smog requirements. The LT1-powered C4's have two cats that attach to the exhaust manifolds. They are almost round and about a foot long. Exhaust pipes go back to just behind the trans into a resonator. Dual pipes exit from that then go back to mufflers.

Any muffler shop can easily cut the factory mufflers off and replace them with tubing. You can keep the rectangular OEM tips or just get the tips of your choice. Figure about $35 to $50 to have that done. New tips can be anywhre from $5 each to $30 each depending on what you want.

Removing the mufflers will produce a decent sound but if you also remove the resonator, expect lots of resonance inside the car. You may also attract the attention of Officer Friendly with straight exhaust.

Here in CA if there is no muffler, it is an immediate fail on the visual inspection for smog. I know it has nothing to do with emissions but with no muffler they still will not pass the smog check.

But that's probably the best option. Probably easier and cheaper to just remove the mufflers and install exhaust clamps on them to make installing them back on when I need to.

Interesting. Too bad Kalifornia has to create so many laws that it makes it hard for car enthusiast to do anything.

Can you get away with removing the resonator itself? LTx mufflers don't do a lot to reduce sound as the cats and the resonator do most of that. You may find that just removing the resonator will provide a nice sound. If there is resonance after doing that, install an X-pipe where the resonator was.

Yea Ca has the toughest restrictions when it comes to emissions. But that sounds like a great Idea. There is no law regarding removal of the resonator so I think I will do that firt and see how it sounds.
Thanks for the tips C4cruiser!
