Just to clarify before I purchase a used controller froma forum member here.
Problem: controller is flashing all over , i mean the led's flicker , the digital number box scrolls like a rebooted cable box does when it is booted up, the fan works even when the led's are not on , meaning the buttons function and do what they are suppose to do, but goes in and out as far as .
the LED temp display shows numbers , then goes off and on.
Bottom line sounds like a defective controller, I have taken it apart and cleaned the contacts with no luck.
I keep reading about the programmer, I assume this doesnt have any factor on the contoller in the case I just desribed.
Am I correct in assuming the controll needs to be replaced.
If you have a 1987 then the climate control until will need to be replaced. When the numbers are flashing and the system isn't working from the controller you can try to fix it (as you have said you have done) or replace it with a known working unit.
The HVAC programmer controls the vacuum-operated doors in the A/C ducts. It also controls the blend door motor to adjust the temperature. All this is commanded by signals from the controller.
