I had some hawk pro pads installed on my C4 saturday, and BOY do they squeal under normal light pressure. These things stop the car on a dime but is there any way at all to get rid of the noise?
Which compound were they? (HPS, HP-Plus, Blue, Etc.) No matter which compound you use you will still have to follow the burnishing procedure in the pad box. :yesnod:
Re: Hawk Pro pads any suggestions? (89 Paul in Cal)
Well, ok so there is a concensus that the majority of Hawk HP-Plus people have some squeeking, but not all.
Then, what did you do different to get yours to not squeek, it is only squeeking under very light braking. During a track event Sun (day after installed) they did not sqeek. Even under regular moderate braking they dont squeek. it is only on normal everyday stopsign stops that is squeeks at the same place in the pedal travel.
How or what Can be done to stop the squeeking, what would you check on normal pads to stop the squeeking in new brakes. Racecars don't squeek, although maybe they have it figured out... a LOUD exhaust might do the trick. :)
You must deglaze the rotor (take the mirror finnish off) before installing the pads. I always use an air sanding disc but some 80grit sandpaper used in a circular motion will work as long as you make sure the contacting surface doesn't shine. :)
You can pull the pads and de-glaze the rotors with 80 to 130 grit as described above. Use soap and water to clean the rotors. The rotors should be clean. Once the pads are back in, make 6 to 10 stops from about 35MPH using moderate braking pressure. Then make 2 to 3 hard stops from about 40 to 45MPH. Do not drag the brakes and allow the pads to cool for at least 15 minutes. Try to do this on a back road or big parking lot where you won't have to be in traffic to make the stops.
