not too many guys need a solid roller with the prochargers. The higher step up ratio makes it easier to avoid belt slip with the d and f series blowers. With my ysi, I wouldn't mind running a solid roller to run more rpm and therefore run a larger blower pulley for more grip.
There's a bunch of guys making huge power with hydraulic rollers and fi on the board here though.
I am curious as to how many people run a solid roller cam with their Forced Induction?
What are the cam specs?
I am going to stick with my 406ci setup that I already have and upgrade my heads to 235cc and add a D1 .
I think its a good idea, though someone on camaroz28 tried to tell me that a cenrifugal blower + solid roller would be the worst of both worlds in terms of poor low rpm performance.
I think they are full of it and it'd be a great combo.
I have heard people with solid roller and issues w/ knock sensors going off due to noise of the solid roller. Id recommend a dash knock gage of some sort so you are always aware ofwhat knock retard is going on.
I went hyd roller on my turbo build mainly because i plan to use it on the street and dont want to stress the solid rollers. Thats the only real problem with a solid roller. The lifters need lots of oil and at lower idle rpms they take a beating and can wear out quickly due to lack of oiling. Sometimes its just spring pressure that kills them. I'm not sure but I've never seen a set last a long time. 5K miles is about it depending on the setup.
Solid rollers generally are best with combos that need extra lift and have heavy valves. If you need rpm and have heavy valves you'll need alot of spring pressure to control and hyd rollers may not handle it.
I dont see a problem with it tho. Checking lash on every oil change may become annoying but if you can get your covers off easily, it shouldnt be too bad a job. I dont see a problem with it on knock sensors, my buddy runs one in his 730 ecm car and hasnt had a problem. Desensitize the knock sensor alittle but it doesnt seem to have issues. valvetrain doesnt sound that noisey anyway.
Not C4 related but FI related.. on my TT 85 Camaro, I ran a solid roller cam from Doug Herbert on the street.. I would regularly drive it round trip 100 miles to my friends shop to hang out. No issues. As far as checking valve lash, after you do it often, you'll get it down to a science..doesnt take long at all. On my single turbo 383 that I'm putting in my C4, I bought a custom grind solid roller from CompCAMS.
