Default Upgrading my Cam..

See mods in sig.. I am looking into upgrading my cam, to something that will give me more power, but is still streetable (I am not opposed to a new chip along with the cam, but remember, this is my daily driver..). I am seriously considering the Hotcam kit, but am open to suggestions. What exactly would I need to upgrade the cam? Do I need new rockers?? Do I want to go with 1.6 rrs or 1.5?? What is the difference?? New push rods?? How difficult is it to change the cam?? Is it a job that can be done in a day with the right tools?? Wow, I just realized that I put 2 ?s at the end of all my questions..

I hear the zz-9 is a very streetable cam and makes good power. I am researching this myself. However I am on more of the wild side since it isn't my daily driver. I'm sure others will jump in I know the LT4 Hot cam is popular on here as well!

I went with the Hot Cam in my LT-4 along with some minor home style head work :D . This car is my daily driver and I can honestly say that there are no problems that I can see, my car is very streetable. The only thing with an LT-1 is you may need to tune the ecm for the brest results. Just a couple of things, you will notice you may have trouble driving slow under 2500 rpm as the car seems to lope along with the cam, as well I make an extra effort to stop at yellow lights so I can listen to the idle :yesnod:

comp cams also has a new line of cams out that totally rock, something between a zz4 cam and hot cam would be about ideal for a daily driver..like a fast ramp 214/222 or so

Mark..the hot cam is extremely streetable.. anything less is not worth the money for gaskets.. your car will not be much different except for id;ing about 200 RPM higher with tuning.. gas mileage should remain civil and street manner will be fine... A/C operation normal etc... etc.... but the gains when you open her up on the top will be much more rewarding!

Best Regards,
Chris

It's times like these, I *almost* want to live back east again....... Not!!! :D

I'll be installing this cam also, hopefully in the not too distant future. Should we be looking at the HotCam kit or just the cam with other (better) rockers, etc...?

FWIW, Sam @ Fairway Chevy (Las Vegas, NV) sells the kit for $500
